We donate €3,000 to the Carrera por la Vida Foundation

€3,000 donation to Fundación Carrera Por La Vida/Walk for life. Once again our club organised, together with Club Tenerife Másters and Fundación Carrera Por La Vida/Walk for life, the 'SWIM FOR LIFE' event. All proceeds go to the Foundation's projects. The handover was made by our president Carmen Nieves

Rotary Club Tenerife Sur and Solidaridad Esperanza de los Pueblos were present today at the Volunteer Fair organised by the Tenerife Island Council around the Los Cristianos Cultural Centre. A great opportunity to meet other organisations that, like ours, have only one goal: to help others.

Our 2024 student exchange youth share their experiences with us

Yesterday at our weekly meeting, and as at every end of the school year, we were visited by the three exchange students we sent to Thailand, the United States and Austria. Saimi, Tania and Rodrigo, accompanied by their families, delighted us by sharing their experiences, and it was clear that it was something unforgettable that will stay with them for life.

Many topics were discussed today at our weekly ordinary meeting, and we were also visited by fellow Rotarians Rega Martínez and Rosa Cardera from Rotary Rosas Empuria Brava-Gerona. Also, as every year, our fellow Rotarian Pepe Casellas has brought us the National Lottery number that the club sells to raise funds for our social work.

Today we combined our weekly meeting with the conference given by psychiatrist Eduardo Vera at the new El Barranco cultural space in Adeje, entitled The Divine, the Human and the Cruel. A Psychological Autopsy of the Passion of Christ – a scientific and spiritual study that from the field of forensic psychology offers an explanation of what happened there and, among many other things, shows us the importance of EMPATHY.

Once again our club has co-organised, together with Club Tenerife Másters and the Carrera Por La Vida/Walk for Life Foundation, the SWIM FOR LIFE event, taking part in a solidarity-filled and fun Sunday at T3 – Tenerife Top Training, a solidarity and sporting action whose proceeds go entirely to the Foundation's projects.

Yesterday Monday we held an informal members' gathering at the magnificent Beach Club OA facilities at Hotel Villa Cortes, where we are always treated with great warmth. There we toasted to our club, which, although it will not hold any regular meetings during August, will continue working tirelessly on the various open projects such as the Sensory Farm (ASD), Rotary La Palma Educational Centre, University of La Laguna Scholarships, Solidarity Food Bank, Rotary Club Tenerife Sur Solidarity Golf Tournament and many others.

Today our president Carmen Nieves Rodríguez Fraga was awarded a prize alongside four other people at the XXXI edition of the Summer University. Adeje Council presented the 1st UVA Awards Gala to recognise key figures in the history of the Adeje Summer University.

We warmly welcomed our District Governor, Luis Gómez-Ojero Martínez, who was accompanied by his provincial representative, Omar Bahaya, on his traditional official visit with the aim of exchanging experiences and coordinating actions among the hundred or so clubs in District 2201 of Spain.

World Polio Day celebration in Adeje

Yesterday, 24 October, as every year, our club joined the World Polio Day celebration at a special event in Adeje's Plaza de España, with many Rotarians and residents who also want to support this cause. Our president Carmen Nieves and our District Governor's Representative Omar Bahaya addressed us there, alongside health authorities and doctors who also shared reflections on this serious disease.

Today we were visited by the Mayor of Arona Fátima Lemes Reverón, who before a large audience and accompanied by our president Carmen Nieves, shared her current vision for the municipality she leads. At the end of her presentation a Q&A session was held where attendees took the opportunity to ask the mayor for her views on the most current issues in the area.

As in recent years, and for the fifth year in a row, Rotary International has again awarded our club its most important accolade, the ROTARY RECOGNITION, which rewards the work carried out in the 23/24 Rotary year under the presidency of Cristina Gentile, effectively helping to CREATE HOPE IN THE WORLD.

The TEA SENSORY FARM moves forward

Today is a very important day for us Rotarians in the south of Tenerife. A major solidarity project we have been working on and promoting for several years has begun: the construction of the LA GRANJA SENSORIAL TEA-Carlos Gonzalez Toledo in Las Zocas, San Miguel de Abona. In a few months it will be a reality.

She had the opportunity to speak with the Rector of the ULL, Fran García, about the agreement we have recently signed to provide two scholarships for university students in the South.

Our Solidarity Food Bank always works for the best quality

At the Rotary Solidarity Food Bank we always aim to provide the most complete and varied basket possible. This week we were also able to add an exceptional product, bluefin tuna loin, thanks to the Fisheries Ministry sub-delegation inspectors who gave us three fine confiscated tuna weighing approximately 100kg in total.

Swim for Life in support of the fight against breast cancer

Surveying, layout and subsequent fencing work has begun on the ROTARY TENERIFE SUR SENSORY FARM. The project has been designed and is being led by our fellow Rotarian and architect Juan Diego Mayordomo together with his team at PLACA ARQUITECTOS. The Sensory Farm is an outdoor space in the Las Zocas neighbourhood in the municipality of San Miguel de Abona.

There are few things that comfort the soul more than, when receiving a call for help, being able to help immediately. In this regard, in recent weeks we have received an unusual number of calls at our Solidarity Food Bank from both families and public institutions asking us to help people who literally had nothing to eat. Of course we have responded to all of them quickly.
